New iPod

Well, my highly anticipate 60 GB Fifth Generation iPod showed up yesterday. It's really amazing. I opted for the black version since I already have a white version (which is in the process of being sold). After spending a while frantically transferring all my music to the iPod (like it all REALLY had to be done at once), I started navigating my way through the menus. I was quite surprised how good the quality is on the screen. Of course, I wanted to test the video support, but I didn't have any videos in the proper "play on iPod" format. That problem was solved later in the evening. Also of interest, it might just be my imagination, but the iPod sounds a lot better when plugged by adapter into my car stereo. It used to be if you turned the volume all the way up on the iPod the sound would become distorted, but that problem seems to have lessened some. I kept trying to compare the differences between my two iPods, and I can't really put my finger on it, but the new one just sounds better.

After downloading the high definition Harry Potter and The Globlet of Fire trailer as well as The Chronicles of Narnia trailer from Apple's Quicktime site, I then converted them into iPod compatible format. Viewing them on the iPod was really quite impressive. The quality obviously isn't like a plasma TV or something like that, but for a little 2.5 inch screen, it's not bad.

Something that I'm not sure could be done before is that you can now "restart" your iPod if it becomes unresponsive. This happened to me once last night while I was testing the iPod out on Danielle's machine. I was able to press the right button combo, and it restarted just fine, and all my music/videos were still there, so that was a relief.

Maybe I'll write more about it once I've used it more. The new dock I ordered should arrive today, which will let me test the video output to my TV, so that should be interesting.

I'm hoping that the iPod does alright with scratching. I figure if I'm careful with it, it should be fine.

If you're looking into buying a new iPod, I would definitely recommend this one.
