A Bad Deal

I just read that Republicans and Democrats have reached an agreement to block the use of the "nuclear option" regarding President Bush's judicial nominees. It's funny that a deal had to be cut in order to get certain senators to do the jobs they were elected to do. Their job is to debate about the candidates (they seem to be awfully good at that), and then they must vote - up or down. It's really as simple as that. I don't see the complexity in it all. If you don't want a judge appointed, vote no. Majority rules. Pretty simple stuff.

Now Republicans have agreed to a deal where "some" of the President's nominees get votes with the Democrats' promise that they won't attempt to block any more nominees except in "extraordinary" circumstances. What happens when they change their definition of extraordinary? Then what happens?

I wish the whole process could be easier sometimes. It would be nice if the government could really get some good stuff accomplished that benefits all of its citizens. We are a government "for the people, of the people, and by the people" after all.
